How to Repair Holes and Rips in Your Metal Building Insulation

Repair Torn Insulation: Use 6" White Vapor Barrier Tape

If your building was built with pre-installed white vapor barrier insulation, you may find that over time it's cracked, ripped, or split open. Now what?

Good news: repairing your metal building vapor barrier might be as easy as applying a metal building insulation repair tape over patches or to punctures, or re-taping loose seams. You can repair your torn insulation easily with our 6" vapor barrier repair tape! BlueTex™ vapor barrier tape is constructed with a super-strong PET Film and has a bright white glossy finish.

This exclusive 6" width was custom designed by us for patching and repairing old, torn insulation, joining seams, sealing edges and anywhere else you need a good vapor barrier adhesive.

First, clean the area around the damage with a standard cleaner/degreaser like 409 or soap and water. The tape is super easy to use. Just do a quick measurement of the height of the rip/tear and then pull off and then peel it directly off the roll. We recommend you pull a piece of tape that's about 4" LONGER than the length you measured of the repair site, so you have some coverage to grip the smooth parts of your insulation. Lay the piece of tape on to the old insulation and pull it across the rip/tear and secure it on the other end with the overlap you accounted for.

Tip: Our pressure-activated tape requires strong pressure to adhere well, and it may take three to four days for it to fully cure and reach its maximum adherence. Our tapes provide a strong adhesive that is resistant to unraveling over time and works in all temperature ranges.

It's as simple as that! Spots with multiple damage may require 3 or 4 runs of tape and larger spots may benefit from a piece or two of our BlueTex™ Pro 2mm insulation, taped on the edges to patch up a bare spot.
