      Case Study: Indoor Volleyball Court

      Case Study: Indoor Volleyball Court

      Each case study offers unique conditions that make it especially interesting to discuss. In the case study we first identify the problem and the expected outcome. Then, after BlueTex™ is installed, we determine the ways it solved the problem.

      Background: This customer owns an indoor volleyball gym that is used for training, practice, and games. Over time the ceiling insulation faded, cracked and fell apart. In this particular building, the ceiling takes a beating when the building is in use, so the customer was looking for a strong material that could withstand being hit but also something that looked nice and brightened up the roofline. This customer was not looking for any heat-blocking benefit from BlueTex™, so creating an air gap between the roof and the foil side was not a requirement for this special application. 

      Type of Structure: red iron PEMB

      Install Date: October 2022

      Goal: Repair roofline of old, falling down insulation

      Product Used: 6mm 50" Wide BlueTex™ Supreme

      Install Details: First, all of the old insulation was pulled down and the roof was bare. This isn't always necessary when you're covering old insulation with BlueTex™, but because of how he was attaching it, our customer needed the roofline bare. After some trial and error he found that the Gorilla® brand construction adhesive worked best to adhere the thicker 6mm to the metal roof. He added lines of adhesive so that each piece of BlueTex™ would be glued in about 3 places (either end of the panel and in the middle). Then he installed 50" panels of BlueTex™ directly to the metal underside of the roof, in between the purlins, pressing for about 30-60 seconds to form the bond between the adhesive and the BlueTex™. Again, he was not looking for the radiant barrier benefit from our product, so the air gap between the metal and the foil was not needed.  The seams were taped with 3" wide vapor barrier foil seam tape.

      Finish: The white side was facing down, toward the inside of the volleyball training facility. The bright white finish made the space look new again and he chose to leave it uncovered and unpainted. Remember, you can cover or paint BlueTex™ if you're looking for a different interior aesthetic. 

      Results: The customer said even though it required some extra steps over a conventional installation, he was very pleased with how easy BlueTex™ was to work with and how strong, sturdy, and tear-proof it is. He also really likes the look of the white side of the BlueTex™ insulation inside and said it brightened up the space more than he imagined. The BlueTex™ continues to hold up well while the gym is in daily use!

      Background: Our customer was building a new Monitor style (raised center section) detached RV wood-framed garage for storing RVs and other vehicles in Virginia. His concerns were to keep the space cooler in the summer and reduce/eliminate moisture in the colder months and was planning to apply BlueTex™ insulation during the building installation. 

      Type of Structure: wood-framed metal garage barn

      Install Date: March 2023

      Goal: Keep building cooler in summer and stop condensation in winter.

      Product Used: 6mm 50" Wide BlueTex™ Supreme

      Install Details: The Monitor style garage has a raised center and it uses purlins behind the exterior metal. The customer wrapped the frame with the BlueTex™ and then installed the purlins on top to create the necessary air gap between the foil surface of the BlueTex™ and the exterior sheet metal siding/roofing. The seams were taped with 3" wide vapor barrier foil seam tape.

      Finish: The foil was facing out with the air space between the foil and the metal skin so from the inside of the garage the customer can see the white surface of the BlueTex™ insulation. He left it uncovered but you can cover or paint BlueTex™ if you're looking for a different interior aesthetic. 

      Results: The customer said his installers were impressed with how easy it was to install BlueTex™ insulation because of its strength and resistance to tearing or ripping. The entirely of the garage was covered since it was done during the construction process.

      Case Study: Condensation Control in New York

Then, after the radiant barrier foil is installed, we determine the ways it improved the problem and, in some cases, even some unexpected benefits that came from the installation.

      Background: This customer's main goal was to combat condensation in the cold season and to reduce the heat gain during the summer. This building does not use any kind of heating/cooling system, just natural ventilation.

      Type of Structure: A 32x30 vented, non-conditioned wood-framed metal building 

      Install Date: March 2023

      Goal: Stop condensation inside the building, with the added benefit of reducing the heat load during the summer.

      Product Used: BlueTex™ Supreme 6mm 50" Wide

      Install Details: In a building that's non-conditioned and vented, BlueTex™ + good ventilation work together to control condensation. You can install BlueTex™ on the roof only with good ventilation to get the desired results, as long as you are not ever heating/cooling the space. The BlueTex™ stops any warm moist air from coming into contact with the cold metal and the warm air vents out. For this application, BlueTex™ does not have to be ultra airtight (again, because this is a fully vented space). The customer installed the BlueTex™ Supreme 6mm by himself and used staples along the edge to attach the insulation. Along the ridge there was a gap left for ventilation and the customer also has windows and doors to open to allow air to enter the building.

      Finish: The customer left the BlueTex™ on the ceiling exposed to the shop below and benefitted from the brightening effect on the interior.  

      Results: From the customer: It was shipped extremely quickly and arrived in great shape with everything ordered. It went up extremely easy ....I did the whole roof by myself and it came out great ...and I am very very picky, so to say it came out great means it looks fantastic. Everyone who has seen it commented very positively.

      Case Study: Repairing a Red Iron Church Building Ceiling

      Background: This customer was working for a church who met inside pre-engineered metal building that had old, falling down fiberglass batt insulation inside their metal building and a giant HVAC duct mounted in the ceiling. The customer needed way to clean up the inside roofline, contain the old insulation that was fallen down, a vapor barrier for the metal building insulation and to help when they cool the building, and brighten up the space.

      Type of Structure: red-iron pre-engineered steel building

      Install Date: February 2023

      Goal: Contain the old falling down metal building insulation, cool the venue down without overworking the A/C, and maintain a nice-looking interior finish.

      Product used: BlueTex™ Supreme 6mm 62" Wide Foil/Foam and EasyClip™ Purlin Insulation Hangers

      Install Details: The building was framed in red-iron and had a corrugated metal roof above them. The BlueTex™ Supreme 6mm was installed so the white faced down, toward the interior, while the foil side faced up, toward the roof. The insulation was attached directly to the bottom of the purlins using the BlueTex™ EasyClip™ insulation install system for red iron buildings.

      Finish: The ends of the pins on the EasyClip™ were snipped off and then the BlueTex™ was sealed and seamed with the 3" white vapor barrier seam tape

      Case Study: Man Cave Garage Conversion

      Background: A man cave hangout in North Carolina needed a way to keep the building comfortable year round and stop condensation from forming inside after the building had been in use. The customer is a veteran and he uses this space for hobby and recreation, so keeping the inside nice and clean and free of moisture was important. 

      Type of Structure: metal-framed metal building

      Location: North Carolina

      Install Date: July 2022

      Goal: Cool down the space in summer and help keep the cold air in when portable A/C was in use; stop condensation from forming in winter when the metal got cold and people were inside hanging out.

      Product used: BlueTex™ 2mm Pro 62" Wide  

      Install Details:  The BlueTex™ was installed vertically (up and down) the framing inside the metal building. The customer also used BlueTex™ inside his roll up garage door. He used our double-sided tape and trimmed off the excess. 

      Finish: The foil side faces the exterior metal to block radiant heat gain during summer, and the glossy white side faces in to the shop for a finished and brighter look inside the building. BlueTex™ is easy to wipe clean and can even be painted! Plus, the 2mm Pro created a new interior surface that can stay above dew point to control condensation on those cold nights. 

      Results: This customer was able to keep his space comfortable as needed, when needed by using BlueTex™ inside the building.
