      Insulate Your Garage Door

      A metal garage door is one of the most underestimated heat sources in a metal building. On a hot summer day, the interior surface of an uninsulated metal door can reach temperatures well above 150 degrees - and that radiant heat goes directly into the garage or shop whenever the sun hits the door. 

      Insulating the door is one of the fastest and easiest things you can do to make your building more comfortable.  One BlueTex™ customer described it this way: "During installation I could tell a huge difference in heat coming off the door behind the part finished with BlueTex™ versus the uncompleted part. It made a noticeable difference."

      BlueTex™ makes insulation kits for two different door types. Understanding which type you have is the most important step before ordering - the wrong kit for your door style won't work.

      Commercial Roll-Up Doors

      Coil into a drum above the opening. Found in metal buildings, ag shops, warehouses, and commercial garages. The insulation must be thin enough to stay flexible as the door rolls.

      Residential Panel Doors

      Horizontal panels that fold as the door tracks upward on a standard home garage. Each panel is insulated individually from the inside - installation is straightforward and does not interfere with the door's movement.

      Commercial Roll-Up Garage Door Kits

      Commercial roll-up doors require a specific product. The insulation must stay thin and pliable so it does not interrupt the door's ability to coil into the drum when opening.

      Critical product note:

      Use only BlueTex™ 2mm Pro (50" wide) on roll-up doors. The 6mm Supreme is too thick and will prevent the door from rolling up completely. Do not substitute.

      Residential Panel Garage Door Kits

      Standard residential garage doors - the kind with horizontal panels that fold as the door tracks upward - use a panel-by-panel installation method. Each horizontal panel is insulated individually from the inside using the included Bron double-sided tape to attach the BlueTex™ and white seam tape to seal the edges. The door continues to move on the track normally after installation.

      Before ordering:

      Measure the height of each individual panel, not the full door height. These kits use 22"-wide rolls - each panel must be 22" tall or shorter. If your panels are taller than 22", contact us before ordering.

      All three residential kits include: BlueTex™ 2mm Pro 22"-wide foil/foam insulation, 1.5" x 180' double-sided tape (apply to the perimeter of each panel), 2" x 196' white seam tape to secure edges, 12 screws/washers as a backup fastening option, and a utility knife. The 2mm Pro reflects up to 97% of radiant heat and has a bright white woven fabric interior surface.
